Ireland to host Netherlands in friendly ahead of Euro 2016

IRELAND will host the Netherlands in their final home international game before the European Championships in France.

Martin O'Neill's team will face the side, which are 14th in the FIFA World Rankings, for the first time since a friendly in 2006.

The fixture will take place on Friday, May 27 when the teams meet for the 20th time in total.

The Irish players will be hoping to impress in the match against the Dutch, as O’Neill will have to submit his final squad for the tournament to UEFA by June 3.

While the Netherlands missed out on a place at Euro 2016, they are considered strong competition for Ireland, having won the 1988 European Championships and finished as runners-up in three World Cup tournaments.

O'Neill's side will also play two other friendlies in Dublin, against Switzerland on Friday, March 25 and Slovakia on Tuesday, March 29.
