Coronas frontman Danny O'Reilly helps inspire London GAA side to final victory

CORONAS frontman Danny O’Reilly is celebrating after helping a North London GAA side to the first intermediate championship title in their history.

O’Reilly put in a commendable performance to  score 1-02 for North London Shamrocks as they ran rampant to defeat West London-based St Brendan’s 3-12 to 0-09 points at the Emerald GAA Grounds in London yesterday (August 31).

The win ensured Shamrocks will play senior football next year and marked the first championship trophy in the club’s 10-year history.

Playing at right-half forward O’Reilly displayed some of the skill that saw him play minor for Dublin in 2003 and senior level football with Templeogue Synge Street.

Now living in Highbury, North London, he has been playing with the Shamrocks for the past year and was cheered on at Ruislip by his Coronas bandmates.

Their joy following Shamrocks victory was temporarily dulled, however, by Donegal’s demolition of Dublin, which the band watched at the Emerald Grounds immediately after the final whistle of the intermediate game.

The final win is O’Reilly’s second major victory with Shamrocks following a Murphy Cup win in May and marks a triumphant run of form for the singer on and off the pitch.

The Coronas were celebrating last month after signing to London-based Island Records, marking a significant leap for the band who are now hoping to replicate their success in Ireland on the international stage.

They play three British gigs next month in Manchester, Glasgow and London.
