Brian O'Driscoll reveals Open tip and taunts Rory McIlroy!

Irish rugby legend Brian O'Driscoll has revealed where his money’s going on this year’s Open, and couldn’t resist poking fun of Rory McIlroy in the process!

The former Leinster centre, who is now retired, has placed a €20 bet on Tommy Fleetwood to finish as the top English player at the golf event in St Andrews at odds of 9/1.

Got to be worth €20 provided he doesn't play any 5-A-Side this week!

The tournament gets underway on Thursday, but last year’s winner Rory McIlroy will not participate, having injured his ankle playing football with friends last week.

And O’Driscoll – who is a personal friend of McIlroy – referenced the world number one’s injury in his cheeky Instagram post, claiming his Fleetwood tip on is a solid one “provided he doesn't play any 5-A-Side this week!”

The pair exchanged roles on the training ground in a promotion for mutual sponsor HSBC earlier this year, as below.

In the absence of McIlroy, Ireland will be represented by Shane Lowry, Graeme McDowell, Padraig Harrington and Darren Clarke at the Open.
