‘It could go for a euro’ – stunning beachfront townhouse in Ireland up for grabs

A STUNNING three-bedroom townhouse in Donegal with spectacular views over Lough Swilly is to go under the hammer next month.

And with no reserve price, bidders could potentially net themselves a bargain.

“The final bid could be €10,000, €100,000, €200,000 or more. In theory, it could go for a euro – although I wouldn’t like to bet on that,” estate agent Gareth McLarnon from Glen Estates told Donegal Now.

The property, 3 Coastguard Station, overlooks the beach and pier in Rathmullan on the western shore of Lough Swilly.

The terraced house is, as its name suggests, part of the converted Coastguard Station.

It boasts a combination of tiled and timber flooring, an open fireplace with stone and cast iron surround and an open-plan living/kitchen/dining area.

In the back garden there is a stone-built shed and a summer house.

The town itself is steeped in history, being the departure point for Hugh O’Neill and Red Hugh O’Donnell during the Flight of the Earls in 1607.

The ruins of a 16th century Carmelite Friary can be found in the town, while the local heritage centre is housed in a former gun battery built in 1810 to defend against a possible French invasion.

While it (theoretically) could go for a euro, it is the first property from the row to go on the open market for 20 years, so interest is likely to be high.
