Winter set to return as freezing temperatures and snow showers forecast for Ireland and UK

IRELAND'S national forecaster Met Eireann has forecast the return of winter this weekend with freezing temperatures and snow showers on the cards.

Tonight will see a return to cold conditions as temperatures plunge to -2C.

Friday and Saturday will see a big difference in conditions as temperatures will descend to below zero everywhere by Saturday night.

Met Eireann is warning of snow showers along the east and south coast, while the rest of the country is currently expected to be predominantly dry.

The outlook for next week looks to be much of the same, with cold, easterly winds and freezing temperatures expected to remain throughout the country.

The UK is bracing itself for two weeks of freezing conditions as -8C Russian winds and snow make their way towards the country.

High pressure locked over Scandinavia will drag bitter winds from Siberia and Eastern Europe to Britain, nicknamed the “Beast from the East”.

It is the first event of its kind for five years and threatens to bring the most severe late winter cold snap since 2013.
