BRYAN Dobson is packing it in....
The57-year-old newsreader will read his final news headlines on this evenings programme, ahead of a move to RTE Radio 1's Morning Ireland with Rachael English, Dr Gavin Jennings and Audrey Caraville from next Wednesday
Dobson has co-anchored the Six One News since 1996 and has brought some of the biggest stories of the last two decades to the Irish public.
Speaking on the move, Dobson previously said: “Over many years presenting Six One News it has been a privilege to work alongside so many talented and committed colleagues to deliver accurate, relevant and engaging news to our large audience."
An RTÉ source said: "Bryan was reluctant to make a big deal about him leaving because the way he sees it, he's only moving across the room.
"He's a very understated and doesn't want a big fuss made. He would be happy enough with a low-key affair."
A spokesperson said that a replacement for Dobson, aka Dobbo, will be announced "in the coming weeks".
"It's likely there will be a rotating schedule of news presenters filling his role for an interim period, similar to what happened on 'Morning Ireland' when Cathal Mac Coille finished at the end of July," she added.
Among the names linked with the role are Ray Kennedy, David McCullough and Keelin Shanley.
Today's news comes after Dobson expressed his support for co-anchor Sharon Ní Bheoláin in her fight for better pay.
