Suspect detained after man dies and two people injured in stabbing

GARDAÍ have detained a suspect after a man died and two people injured in a stabbing in Co Louth this morning.

The incident happened on Avenue Road in Dundalk at around 9am this morning.

The man, who's believed to be Asian, was attacked on the street and stabbed to death.

Two other people were then subsequently attacked.

Gardaí arrived on scene confronted and disarmed the attacker, who is believed to be from the Middle East.

He has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being detained at Dundalk Garda Station.

Gardaí are trying to establish a motive for the attack, including the possibility that it was planned, and if the attacker knew the victims or if they were attacked at random.

Three scenes at Avenue Road, the Inner Relief Road and Seatown have been preserved pending the arrival of the State Pathologist and the Garda Technical Bureau.
