Six hikers rescued from Ireland's highest mountain

THREE MEN AND THREE WOMEN were left in difficulty on Irish mountain Carrauntoohil.

The hikers were scaling Ireland's highest peak when they found themselves stuck on the way down from the peak.

It's understood the group reached the summit of the mountain at 11 am on Saturday, but in making the descent from the mountain, became stranded.

According to Irish Times, the six explorers were reached at 8pm and given food, clothing and hot drinks to bring up their temperature.

The hikers were brought down from the mountain using the Devil's Ladder route and a number of ropes.

Wind, snow and rain in the dark made the journey down from the peak difficult for the team, it is believed.
