Sir Terry Wogan posthumously honoured at The Irish Post Awards 2016 in London

THE Irish Post Awards take place in London tonight and a glittering night is in store.

Over 1,000 guests have gathered in the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane to celebrate the success of Irish people across a variety of endeavours including sport, the arts, entertainment, business and community.

As well as celebration there will be sadness too, as one of the Ireland's finest is remembered - Sir Terry Wogan will be posthumously honoured for his services both to broadcasting, to charity and to the Irish in Britain community.

Hosted by broadcaster Eamonn Holmes, the black tie event is honouring  a number of exceptional people including Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill, who will be honoured for his Outstanding Contribution to Sport in Britain.

The Outstanding Contribution to Business in Britain Award is to be presented to Leicester City FC CEO Susan Whelan.

Shane Richie will be honoured with the Entertainment Legend Award.

The inaugural Irish Post Building Britain Award will be announced on the night from a short list of four finalists Carey Group, Clancy Group, FM Conway and Ground Construction.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, also the evening's keynote speaker, will present the construction award.

Meanwhile Cork woman Agnes Forde, from Irish Community Services, will receive The Irish Post Community Award.

Guests tonight include football legends Roy Keane and Liam Brady, dancer Michael Flatley, designer Louise Kennedy, actor Fionnula Flanagan, chef Richard Corrigan and Big Brother star Jayne Connery.

The Irish Post’s InBusiness 2016 magazine will also be launched tonight - the annual publication is a go-to directory of Irish leaders, connectors and influencers in Britain.

The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity will benefit from this year’s Awards evening, with proceeds from the night’s exclusive raffle going to the charity which provides emergency financial support to the construction community.
