Second man arrested over murder of Garda Adrian Donohoe

A SECOND man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Garda Adrian Donohoe in Co. Louth in 2013.

The man, in his 60s, was arrested in Dundalk yesterday, a day after a man in his 20s was arrested for the same crime.

Detective Garda Donohoe was 41 when he was killed in the line of duty.

He was shot dead outside Lordship Credit Union in Bellurgan, near Dundalk, on January 25, 2013.

The first man held for the murder was arrested in Dublin on Sunday evening.

He is currently being detained at Dundalk Garda Station under the provisions of section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

The second man, arrested yesterday, is being held at Balbriggan Garda Station, also under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

Gardaí had issued an appeal in relation to the infamous killing earlier this year.

On the fifth anniversary of Garda Donohoe’s murder last month, Chief Superintendent Christy Mangan said “many lives were left shattered” by his death.

Gardaí made thousands of enquiries and went through over 20,000 hours of CCTV footage as part of their investigation.
