Manchester Police launch murder investigation for missing man Michael Martin

POLICE in Manchester have launched a murder investigation following the disappearance of Michael Martin. 

Michael Patrick Martin, 25, was first reported missing on Monday, August 8 in Blackley, north of Manchester city centre.

He was last seen at his home on Sidmouth Drive in Blackley in the early hours of Sunday 7 August 2016.

Officers investigating his disappearance have since searched two properties in Blackley – one on Victoria Avenue and one on Longton Road.

A room at the Premier Inn on Middleton Road in Higher Blackley has also been searched as part of the investigation.

Mr Martin's car has also been found in Blackley.

Greater Manchester Police have said they are now treating Mr Martin's disappearance as a murder investigation and are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

Detective Inspector Andrew Naismith from GMP’s Major Incident Team said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who may have any information about what has happened to missing Michael Martin.

“We are investigating a number of possibilities," Detective Naismith said, "however a non-body murder investigation has now been launched."

GMP have also said specialist support officers are supporting Michael's family.
