Man facing life imprisonment for murder of Irish traveller

A FATHER-OF-FOUR has been jailed for stabbing a young Irish traveller to death.

46-year-old Lyndon Smith has been found guilty of attacking 20-year-old John Joyce at a pub in Wolverhampton.

The court heard Mr Smith had been playing a game of pool with Mr Joyce and a group of friends in August 2017 before a fight broke out regarding the rules of the game.

According to West Midlands Police, Mr Smith left the bar but later returned bearing a knife.

Mr Smith, equipped with a 14cm knife confronted Mr Joyce and stabbed him four times near Bilston High Street.

Authorities were alerted to the scene and efforts were made to resuscitate the victim, however, Mr Joyce died at the scene of the stabbing.

A post-mortem performed on the deceased revealed he died from a deep stab wound to his chest.

Mr Smith will be sentenced on Thursday 15th March.
