A man has died on the road in Co. Clare

A MAN and woman were in a car before a major collision in Co. Clare.

In the car, the man was driving the vehicle on the Woodcock Hill in the area of Meelik before they crashed into a tree.

According to Irish Mirrorthe vehicle hit the tree in the early hours of Sunday morning, at approximately 3:40 am.

Emergency services arrived to the scene of the collision where the driver of the vehicle was pronounced as dead. His body has been moved University Hospital in Limerick.

The other passenger in the car, a young woman who is believed to be 25 years old, has been left in critical condition following serious injuries sustained in the crash.

The woman was brought to University Hospital also, where she is receiving treatment for her condition but her current status has been confirmed.

The road where the collision occurred has been closed off by local Gardaí as it is sealed off for forensic examination.

The man involved in the collision in Co. Clare is the second person to have lost their lives on the road this bank holiday weekend.

On Sunday morning, a 26-year-old driver was alone in the car on the Dundalk to Castleblaney Road at Rathmore when his vehicle hit the wall and he tragically died.
