A 19-YEAR-OLD man is in a critical condition at Cork University Hospital after falling on the icy ground while taking pictures of the weather yesterday afternoon.
The man was badly injured at around 3.30 pm yesterday while out walking with his father in the Mayfield area of Cork city.
People had been warned to stay indoors from yesterday afternoon until this morning amid treacherous condition.
According to RTE News, the man was on a low wall that surrounds playing fields in the Lotabeg Estate when he slipped and fell backwards.
Staff at the hospital are describing the injury as a serious and life-changing neck injury.
The man was attended to at the scene by paramedics and personnel from the Cork City Fire Service, before being taken to Cork University Hospital.
The man’s father was also taken to hospital after he collapsed at the scene.
