DANNY Healy-Rae may still believe fairies are responsible for the poor condition of Irish roads, but the Kerry TD has finally discounted the existence of leprechauns at least.
Healy-Rae was speaking at an Oireachtas Agriculture Committee hearing when he claimed there was no pot of gold to pay for the Government's €22bn climate change plans.
The Kilgarvan TD was criticising a series of measures set out by the National Development Plan when he conceded: "There are no leprechauns".
He claimed working people and farmers would be forced to make up the extra money needed by the Government to execute the plan.
"Who is going to pay for that?" he asked.
"It's the people working and the farmers who will have to pay, because there are no Mother Teresa's. Mother Teresa died.
"There are no leprechauns. The money will have to be extracted from the working people, the private people, the farmers and the business people."
Case closed, folks.
