Irish Independent editors facing jail over alleged contempt of court

THE DPP in Ireland has sought an order directing the committal to prison of Independent News and Media(INM) editors Stephen Rae and Claire Grady.

Mr Rae, along with Irish Independent editor Claire Grady presided over the publication of the groups ‘Anglo Tapes’ coverage since 2013.

The DPP has claimed that any publication of further material in respect of the tapes would interfere with the criminal trial process in relation to events at the former Anglo Irish Bank.

In Dublin this week it was claimed material published by INM may prejudice the proper administration of justice in relation to the criminal trials currently pending against former Anglo officials.

The Irish Times reported that Shane English BL, for the Independent, said it had been agreed to remove significant portions of the tapes identified in an affidavit in the injunction application from the DPP.

The matter has been adjourned to today (Friday).
