Irish footballer and Sunderland player Darron Gibson has been suspended following drink-driving

IRISH SOCCER player Darron Gibson has been suspended following drink-driving.

The Derry native was caught with an excess of alcohol in his blood while operating a motor.

According to a statement on the Sunderland website, the player was suspended from yesterday and it is not known how long he will be suspended for.

An investigation into the incident has been launched.

Martin Bain, the chief executive for Sunderland said: "We expect the highest standard of behaviour from our players and should any individual fall short of those standards then robust action must be taken."
