Irish entrepreneur buys popular Brixton Market

A LIMERICK native has fought off competition from Newcastle United and Sports Direct owner Mike Ashley to secure London’s famous Brixton Market for £37.3 million.

Developer Aidan Brooks led a consortium to secure the acquisition of the popular South London property.

His company, Tribeca Holdings, based in Mayfair, already owns a number of commercial properties in London, including Old Spitalfields Market and properties in the expensive Knightsbridge, Bond Street and Covent Garden areas.

Brixton Market is made up of 140 shops and restaurants and generates a rental income of £1.2 million year on year.

47-year-old Brooks is from the North Circular Road in Limerick but has been based in London since 2010. He has grown his fortune to €300 million in that time.

He also owns properties in New York, Los Angeles and Paris.
