Gardaí show terrifying picture to warn motorists of the dangers of black ice

WITH icy and frosty weather predicted for the days ahead, An Garda Síochána have warned people to drive carefully on the roads.

In Co. Cork, the occupants of one vehicle have been extremely lucky to survive a terrifying crash which left the remains of their car mangled.

Between the areas of Fermoy and Ballyhooly, the vehicle slipped on the N27 road which was covered in black ice and flipped, landing on a bush.

The Garda Síochána Facebook page shared shocking photos of the car, sharing that remarkably, the driver and occupants of the car were spared from injury.

The Garda force said: "Emergency Services attended a Road Traffic Collision earlier this morning between Fermoy and Ballyhooly. The occupants had a lucky escape and, thankfully, were not injured."

The police force warned that even though it may look safe, extra caution must be taken when driving in wintry weather: "The roads may appear safe, but with black ice you never can tell. Adjust your driving accordingly and make sure your vehicle is Winter Ready."
