Extradition hearing for teenage sex attacker arrested at Dublin Airport

THE extradition hearing of a teenage sex attacker arrested at Dublin Airport on Monday night will take place today.

Pakistani national Mian Mujahid Ali Shahid, 19, was arrested at 10.40pm as he boarded a flight to Dubai. He was detained at Clontarf Garda Station and appeared before a special sitting of the High Court yesterday.

Gardaí were assisting British police in their hunt for Al Shahid and had received a European Arrest Warrant.

He had temporarily been staying in Limerick after travelling to Ireland from Scotland this year. Gardaí issued a public appeal to track him down last Thursday.

Ali Shahid has been convicted of a sexual assault on an 18-year-old woman.

He was convicted in his absence at Stafford Crown Court in April and later sentenced in his absence to 30 months in jail.
