Eleven men and women arrested in 'Munster paedophile ring' released without charge

ELEVEN people who were arrested earlier this week as part of an investigation into alleged sexual exploitation of children have been released without charge.

On Monday, Gardai from the Newcastle West District in Limerick arrested six women and five men, ranging in age from 20’s to 70’s, as part of an investigation into a suspected paedophile ring in the area.

All eleven individuals were arrested in Limerick, Tipperary and Kerry and were detained at various Garda Stations in Limerick, Cork and Clare under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

A garda spokesperson told Independent.ie that files will now be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

It is understood that the claims first surfaced in August of 2017 and that there may be more involved than the initial eleven arrested.
