Elderly woman, 83, dies after being hit by lorry in front of horrified shoppers outside Harrods in London

AN ELDERLY woman has died after she was hit by a lorry last night near Harrods in central London.

The pensioner, 83, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident in the Brompton Road in Knightsbridge.

She was struck by a white and blue DAF lorry in front of horrified shoppers just yards away from Harrods shortly before 6pm.

The driver of the lorry involved in the collision stopped at the scene and was treated for shock.

Police closed the road between the V&A Museum and Harrods for a number of hours to allow for an examination of the scene.

They have appealed for witnesses who were in the area at around 5.55pm yesterday to come forward.

Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the incident.

The victim has been identified and her next of kin have been informed.

A post-mortem has been ordered into the cause of her death.

No arrests have been made.
