ELDERLY man found outside Carlow home may have died from hypothermia.
A man in his 80’s has died after being found outside of his home in Carlow.
Gardai investigating the man’s death believe he may have died from hypothermia following the weekend of extremely cold weather.
It is understood the man was found outside his property on Sunday and brought to St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny where he later passed away.
A post-mortem on the man’s body will take place this afternoon.
The news comes just a few hours after Taoiseach Leo Varadkar warned that bodies could be discovered in the aftermath of the Beast from the East and Storm Emma.
Sean Hogan, Chairman of the National Emergency Coordination Group told the Irish Independent that there have been a number of fatalities in recent days but refused to comment on the case in Carlow.
“We have been concerned from the beginning,” he said, adding that the call still stands for people to check up on vulnerable neighbours.
