Elderly man dies in single-vehicle collision in rural Ireland

A MAN in his 70s has died in a single-vehicle collision in Co. Monaghan. 

The collision happened at Lakeview, Castleblayney at around 1.45pm.

It is believed the car left the road and struck a wall.

The driver, who was the only person in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where a post mortem will be carried out.

Local diversions are in place as gardaí carry out a forensic examination of the scene.
