Ed Sheeran’s special Irish announcement on St Patrick’s Day has got fans excited

POP superstar Ed Sheeran has revealed on St Patrick’s Day details of a special concert to raise funds for the London Irish Centre Charity (LICC).

The Galway Girl singer recorded a video to announce the intimate gig, which will be hosted by presenter Dermot O’Leary at the London Irish Centre later this year on June 19.

And fans will be in with a chance of winning tickets to the gig, which will see Sheeran perform live to just 400 people in the centre’s ballroom.

Revealing his pride at his Irish roots, Sheeran said the gig would be ‘something special’.

“My Irish heritage is something of which I’ve always been proud of, so this concert feels like a natural fit,” he said.

“I love what the London Irish Centre Charity do in terms of being at the heart of championing Irish culture and community in London, and their plans are really exciting.

“I’m hoping that people like Dermot O’Leary, myself and others can help them get their voice heard.

“We’re all very excited about the summer 2018 show – this is going to be something very special.”

The show, which coincides with the closing of Sheeran’s four sold-out concerts at Wembley Stadium, will be the first event of the LICC's annual An Evening with Dermot O’Leary programme.

LICC patron O’Leary said: “I’m very proud of my Irish heritage; my parents were part of the post-war generation of immigrants who came to London to find a new life, so the London Irish community is one that is very close to my heart.

“I’m looking forward to helping the London Irish Centre both promote Irish culture and support vulnerable people.”

Proceeds form the event, which features a full line-up of supporting artists, will go towards the LICC to support the development of its charitable services and the reimagining of the centre’s historic premises.

The LICC has been providing care, culture and community to the city’s huge Irish population for over 60 years.

To be entered into a prize draw to win one of five pairs of tickets, fans can donate at least £10 or more, as many times as they wish.

The draw runs from St Patrick's Day until March 31 with the winners being selected on Tuesday, April 3.
