RESIDENTS of one British city prefer a winter break in Dublin over Dubai, according to new figures.
The Birmingham Mail reports that the Irish capital is the top destination for people flying from the Midlands city during December, January and February.
A total of 223,822 passengers flew between Birmingham Airport and Dublin last winter, making it the most popular destination.
Dubai came in second, with 205,534 heading for the United Arab Emirates city.
Amsterdam (145, 729), Paris CDG (99,148) and Tenerife Surreina Sofia (96,679) completed the top five.
The figures are for passengers flying in both directions to and from Birmingham Airport.
The Midlands city has a large Irish population, and the passenger numbers are likely to be swelled by the number of people returning home for the holidays.
As the seventh biggest airport in Britain and the biggest in the Midlands, it is also likely to attract passengers from across the region and further afield.
Both Aer Lingus and Ryanair offer flights from Birmingham to Dublin.
