DANIEL O'DONNELL fans are set to be shocked as 'blows a gasket' during a home makeover set to be screened this Spring.
The singer, 56, and wife Majella feature on RTÉ's Room to Improve with architect Dermot Bannon to help them renovate their Co Donegal home.
The singer, known for his usual laid back attitude, revealed to VIP Magazine how viewers will be surprised to see how agitated he becomes by the planning process.
He said: “I did blow a gasket when I got the first pricing.
"But now I’m more relaxed about it because I know that Dermot will do a magnificent job, even if he does drive me mad sometimes."
“I was actually quite annoyed with the whole thing," he said. "I’m not sure what they’ll show on TV but people might not think I’m quite as placid.”
The singer also spoke of the couple's love of interior design, taking a huge interest in TV shows about home makeovers.
He said: “Majella and I just love interiors. Our favourite programmes to watch are shows like Grand Designs and Sixty Minute Makeover and when we go to America we spend all our time watching Home and Garden TV.
“I know people might think ‘Why would they get a show to do their home renovation?’
“But you don’t get it for nothing. It’s not that it’s going to cost us anything less, it’s just going to be really well done.”
It's set to be a busy year for Daniel as he has a tour coming up in August, but he said he never takes his career for granted.
He told the magazine: “I’m never ever complacent. But I do know that a time will come when there won’t be an audience, and that it will be time for me to say goodbye.”
He added: “I think I’ll always sing. And I’d be happy singing anywhere. But I don’t want to be out there doing this when I’m old.”
O’Donnell also told how he takes great joy out of his family, taking pride in his role as stepfather to Majella’s children Siobhan and Michael and how they're set to become grandparents for the second time this month when Siobhan welcomes a baby brother for her daughter Olivia.
“Siobhan and Michael were children when I first met them. Siobhan was only 11 and Michael was nine so I was around for a good bit.
“But I can’t even describe how I feel about (Siobhan’s daughter) Olivia. I’m stuck for words, it’s just beyond expression. I can’t get enough of her.”
