Irishman tests people's knowledge of Irish slang…with hilarious results

IRISH slang is unintelligible to most people in Britain, so imagine crossing the pond to ask our American cousins what the craic’s about.

Gareth Myles Greenfield is a Northern Irishman studying abroad at the University of Central Missouri, where he asked his unsuspecting classmates precisely that.

One poor student thought the craic might be “a body of water”, whilst another assumed it had something to do with drugs.

Then Gareth ramped up the difficulty.

Most seemed to think a “wee dander” referred to an evening out on the town rather than a short stroll.

That one was hard enough, but imagine their flabbergasted reactions to being asked: “Do you think I came down the Lagan in a bubble?”
