The London Lasses launch fifth album at Gaelic Voices festival in London

WITH 15 years’ experience under their belts traditional Irish band The London Lasses continue to impress as they release their fifth album this week.

As passionate as ever about their craft, the popular group launches The One I Loved the Best at The Clayton Crown (formerly Crown Moran) Hotel in Cricklewood on Friday.

While all four of their previous albums have been recorded as The London Lasses with pianist Pete Quinn, their 2015 offering is released with pianist/guitarist Chris O’Malley.

Concertina player Brogan McAuliffe is also new to the fold, joining the band just in time for the CD, which has been described as “a well-researched selection of music and song, some old and some new exciting material,” by Matt Molloy of The Chieftains.

The pair join band stalwarts Karen Ryan (fiddle, mandola, banjo), Elaine Conwell (fiddle), Elma McElligott (flute, sax, backing vocals) and Brona McVittie (vocals, harp) in the current line-up.

The album also features guest musicians Colm McGonigle (harp), Maureen Linane (accordion) and Aibhilín Nic Eochagáin (accordion, flute, backing vocals).

The group will launch the CD at The Clayton Crown Hotel this Friday, May 15.

The event, which is free to attend, kicks off at 7.30pm and falls within the Gaelic Voices 2015 festival, which is taking place in north London from May 15-17.

The London Lasses and Chris O’Malley will then head for Ireland – where their Irish tour kicks off in Ennis on May 24 and continues across the country until August 9.
