Sarah Jessica Parker to star in Sharon Horgan's new comedy 'Divorce'

ACTRESS Sarah Jessica Parker will return to the small screen after almost a decade in Irish writer and actress Sharon Horgan's new comedy Divorce

Deadline Hollywood reports that The Sex and the City actress will star in and executive produce the show alongside London-born Sharon Horgan.

Horgan has an Irish mother and New Zealand  father, but the Horgan family was raised in Co. Meath.

Horgan had her first TV hit with award-winning cult comedy Pulling on BBC.

Recently, Catastrophe, the show Horgan wrote and starred in with Rob Delaney provided a hit for Channel 4 and has been recommissioned  for a second series.

After the successful pilot show was made for Divorce, US TV network HBO, who brought the wildly popular True Detective and Lena Dunham's Girls to our screens have given the series the green light.

The story will be filmed in New York, Sarah Jessica Parker's home turf

The plot centres on Frances (played by Parker), "a woman who suddenly begins to reassess her life and her marriage, and finds that making a clean break and a fresh start is harder than she thought."

Horgan was clearly impressed by the news that SJP would take the starring role, expressing her excitement on Twitter.
