ONE of The Pogues’ founding members is due to receive an honorary degree from the University of Bath next week.
Jem Finer has been non-resident artist at the university since 2012, having previously co-written the classic Christmas song Fairytale of New York with Shane MacGowan.
The musician will become a Doctor of Arts by university chancellor Prince Edward at the annual degree ceremony at Bath Abbey.
Other honorary graduates at next week’s annual event will include commissioner of Transport for London Sir Peter Hendy, inventor of the Brompton folding bicycle Andrew Ritchie, and chief executive officer of the British Olympic Foundation and chef de mission of the 2014 Commonwealth Games Jan Paterson.
Over 2,500 students are expected to receive degrees during the three days of ceremonies.
The Pogues will perform at the Bristol summer series on Thursday 26 June and in London’s Hyde Park on Saturday 5 July
