Legendary Irish musician Liam O' Flynn passes away aged 72

LEGENDARY Irish uilleann pipe player Liam O' Flynn has passed away aged 72. 

According to Today with Sean O' Rourke on RTE Radio 1, the established Irish musician died following a long battle with cancer.

A former member of the trad group Planxty, O' Flynn played alongside the likes of Christy Moore, Donal Lunny, Kate Bush, the Everly Brothers, Sinead O' Connor and many others throughout his career.

The Kildare man is acknowledged as Ireland's foremost exponent of the uilleann pipes and has brought the music of the instrument to a worldwide audience.
