ONE final note about the election and one of the Irish entrants. Joanne Cash (pictured) from Portadown — and coincidentally who attended the same school in Banbridge as a former editor of The Irish Post — really made a complete hames of a bid to become Tory MP in Westminster. It would be fair to say that while Ms Cash is a fine barrister, her skills as a politician are distinctly lacking. When things weren’t going in her favour she resigned, then unresigned after Mr Cameron interceded. She then put on her Twitter page ‘RIP dinosaurs’ referring to some older Tory grandees in her constituency. This didn’t go sown well with local party members. Finally, when Ms Cash achieved the lowest swing against Labour in any constituency in Britain, the Co. Down woman took defeat less than gracefully. She rounded on the assembled journalists saying: “Press, you are on notice of the truth as of now — no more lies!” She evidently doesn’t like us hacks, to which I can only remind everyone, including Ms Cash, should remember that the word ‘Tory’ is derived from the Irish ‘toraidhe’ meaning outlaw or highwayman.
