Swansea Cork Ferries competition

Jedward’s hair-raising act winning over fans

LOVE them or loathe them, Irish twins John and Edward Grimes have survived another week on the X Factor.

The pair have defied the odds and sailed through to the next round of the competition.

On Saturday they sang a ropey rendition of Ricky Martin’s She Bangs in front of the judges and received cheers and boos in equal measure from the live audience.

With their sky high hair-dos and often cringe-inducing dance-don’ts, the Lucan lads certainly add to the entertainment value of the show.

And despite being far from pitch perfect there’s more than a little something addictive about our teen twins.

The 18-year-olds — who have been nicknamed Jedward — seem to be dividing the nation on their X Factor journey. But one thing’s for sure the Irish lads must be winning the hearts of some of the British public.

Much has been made of the fact that talented singers are being sent home to make way for the twins. Girl group Miss Frank and bookies’ favourite Danyl Johnson both found themselves in the bottom two this week. It was Louis’ girls who received the least amount of public votes and they were forced to exit the show.

Simon Cowell hasn’t been shy in airing his thoughts about the brothers. On Sunday night’s results show he described the voting as “a disgrace”.

Meanwhile fellow X Factor judge Cheryl Cole said the boys were fast becoming her “guilty pleasure”.

Over the last few weeks dozens of Facebook sites have cropped up, campaigning to have the singers booted off the show.

Co. Mayo music mogul Louis Walsh is their mentor and believes that the pair can go on to have a successful pop career. He has taken criticism from Simon Cowell and the rest of the judges who think he picked the duo just because they are Irish.

But they auditioned for the talent show like everyone else and were lucky enough to be picked for the final TV stage.

Despite having a go at Louis and the boys in the past, The Irish Post and the showbiz team think it’s now time to start getting behind the boys.

They might not be the best singers in the world but we’re always looking forward to seeing what they’ll do next.
