The Galtymore Dance Club in London, one of the best known Irish venues in Britain, is to close in less than two months time.

The venue has been open since St Patrick’s Day in 1952 and remains a frequented nightspot for live music and Irish organisation events.

Let us know of your fondest memories from the years that the Galtymore served as a lynchpin for the Irish community in London.

Your comments will be sent to our newsroom for monitoring before they go live. This is to ensure nothing defamatory or personally offensive is posted to the site.
This monitoring process means there will be a small delay before your comment is live. We appreciate your patience in allowing us to monitor in this way.

Big Tom is still around, country and western songs, used to play all over ireland aswell. He would be older than myself!!! :)

I met this fella, he said he was Irish, he was dark skinned, he put this thing around my neck, it was one of those false Gods. He worked on the underground, i could go on and on...

All the fella's loved the Irish Girls back then. We were a friendly bunch, out for a good time.

I have so many happy memories of the Galtymore. I saw some of the best of the showband scene there. My time at the Galtymore was during the seventies - the best and happiest time.

I spent 27 years in London from 1970 to 1997,
The Galty was the first dance hall I went to when
I arrived in England. I would go dancing in the 70's
3 nights a week there, brilliant bands and the
atmosphere is one that nowhere else can come close to, it was, is and always will be that special place. with all the great bands and of course to dance to Big Tom was just brilliant. I am very sad to hear of it closing its the end of an era.

Met my wife there in 1969, the year of the bank strike in Ireland. We remained in London until 1987. Fond memories of this Home from Home, and the electric atmosphere surrounding the Galtymore.

I'm glad, the one i met there in 1971 has cost me an arm and a leg i would n't have wished it on my worst enemey, and the old crownies that went there should have stayed at home rather than listening to irish bands that could n't make it at home, singing other mans songs, never the less i'll be there on the closing nite looking for that old sligo one that spent my hard earned money, prehaps she may buy me a pint or two,i certainley bought her a few in my time ,in all fairness i'll miss the old place ,good memories, bad memories............but all good to tell the grandchildren

I spent many a good night in the Galty. It was a great meeting place for the second generation Irish in London. My friends and I used to meet there in the 80's. My parents met in the Galtymore in the late 50's. I had my stag night at the place in Aug 1992.
