Amy Winehouse Foundation Ball: Ronnie Wood among attendees

By on November 23, 2012

Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, actress Barbara Windsor and musician Mark Ronson last night gathered in London to raise money for The Amy Winehouse Foundation and pay tribute to the late singer.

The Foundation, which donated £20,000 to an Irish Centre earlier this year, held its first major fundraising event at The Dorchester hotel to help support its work with disadvantaged young people.

Friends, family and fans of the late singer, including Paloma Faith and Jamie Cullum, attended the charity ball and watched footage of the Foundation’s work over the past 14 months.

The charity was set up to prevent the effects of drug and alcohol misuse on young people and to support the vulnerable and disadvantaged.

Speaking at the event, Amy’s father, Mitch Winehouse, praised the work of those at the Foundation and said the charity’s work had helped “us all deal with her passing”.

He added:  “We are blessed to meet such incredible people, doing fantastic work who we can lend a hand to.  We know she would be proud of what we are doing, she was such a generous person and ensured that we were inspired to help others in her name.”

Last June, the Foundation donated more than £20,000 to Camden’s London Irish Centre to help young people in crisis.

The Foundation’s relationship with the centre began last year when Mitch Winehouse switched on the Christmas tree lights at the centre, located in Camden Square, where Amy had lived.

Amy Winehouse passed away on July 23, 2011, aged just 27.

Her family launched the Amy Winehouse Foundation on September 14, 2011, on what would have been the singer’s 28th birthday.
