FORMER Irish Commissioner Peter Sutherland was presented with the Special Recognition Award.

Mr Sutherland has become a major force for good in Irish life and is chairman of the Ireland Fund of Great Britain, as well as being chairman of BP and Goldman Sachs International.

But away from the boardroom he cites one of his major achievements as his work with the Ireland Fund Of Great Britain.

In that role he has worked tirelessly to help the elderly Irish in Britain - and campaigned for those who have benefited from the Celtic Tiger economy not to forget previous generations who had to leave the island of Ireland to find work.

The Ireland Fund also continues to do wonderful work aimed at cultural and social development and promoting peace and reconciliation in Ireland and Britain.

It has become a major force for good in Irish life and Peter Sutherland has become a prime mover in that achievement.
